The election was supposed to be today

“Our beloved motherland has been faced with a difficult challenge. Today, the greatest challenge for us is to uphold and strengthen democratic rule by ensuring political and social stability, holding free and fair elections and ensuring people’s voting right.”

-Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed, new Chief Adviser to the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh, in his maiden address to the nation.

The election, for which so much blood has been spilled, was supposed to be held today, but thankfully the day is now passing as it should: with new preparations and a new hope for democracy being reborn in Bangladesh.

I’m skeptical but hopeful. Maybe things can change, starting today.
